Open Baptist Conference

The 2026 conference will be a live-in event and include a dedication service for the first group of pastors accredited by the Open Baptists Committee for Ministry.

The conference is based on the Open Space Technology method where conference participants bring their own questions and ideas for group discussion, and will explore the topic:

HOW DO WE, AS OPEN BAPTISTS, EXPLORE, AND COURAGEOUSLY AND GENEROUSLY SHARE LIFE LIVED TO THE FULL?

The live-in conference will commence at 6:00 pm on Friday 12 June and finish at 2:00 pm on Sunday 14 June and will be held at Mt Carmen Retreat Centre, 247 St Andrews Road, Varrowville NSW

KEYNOTE SPEAKER

The keynote speaker (7pm Friday) and preacher (11am Sunday) will be Dr Tanya Riches, Director of the Master of Transformational Development, Eastern College Australia. Tanya will be exploring how we, as Open Baptists build a resilient, courageous, and generous faith - and how we do this together. How do we encourage drawing on community – rather than withdrawing – when the journey is long and arduous? What does it mean to be part of the communion of the saints?

Explorers - Tuesdays at 10:00 am in the Community Room - Term 3 2026

The Explorers will gather again to come bring all sorts of experiences and understanding to share as they search out God's plan for their lives, His church and the world.

Explorers follow the example of the Bereans:

The Bereans lived in the Greek city of Berea, also called Beroea, in the time of the Apostle Paul, about AD 50. These people, mentioned in Acts 17, are best known for searching and studying the Bible for themselves and not merely accepting what they were taught.

Acts 17:11 NIV, records that the people in Berea “received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.” This, he said, made them “of more noble character” than people in other places who just listened but didn’t actually study the Bible carefully for themselves.

Explorers ask questions like those suggested by the journalist and author Rudyard Kipling:

I keep six honest serving men, they taught me all I knew.

Their names are What and Why and When

and How and Where and Who.
